Why are so many patients choosing dental implants over traditional methods of tooth replacement?

Dental Implants Are the Closest Thing

to Natural Teeth

Long-Lasting

While restorations need to be replaced periodically, implants are built to last.

Support Bone Health

Implant-supported restorations preserve a dense, healthy jaw bone.

Improve Confidence

By addressing missing teeth, implants can help you look and feel younger.

Missing Teeth

Affect More People Than You May Think

Patients of all ages can experience tooth loss, often as a result of an accident or tooth decay. According to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 19 percent of adults over the age of 65 suffers from complete tooth loss. Tooth loss not only makes it difficult for patients to chew and speak properly, but can also seriously impact nutrition and oral health. At New Mexico Smile Center, we offer dental implants to help our patients achieve secure tooth replacement. Dr. Steve Ollason is proud to complete all aspects of the dental implant process at our Albuquerque, NM, office to provide you with the highest quality of care at your convenience.

What Are Dental Implants?

At our Albuquerque, NM dentistry, our dentist often incorporates dental implants into a full mouth reconstruction. Dental implants are small titanium posts that are placed inside the jawbone. These posts are designed to act as artificial tooth roots. When attached to a dental crown, denture, or dental bridge, the entire tooth is replaced from root to crown.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants offer patients many advantages over traditional restorations including:

Natural function
By anchoring your restorations into your jaw, you can expect your new teeth to function naturally including withstanding normal biting forces. As such, you do not need to worry about your restoration sliding out of place while speaking or eating.
Protection against jawbone atrophy
When a tooth is no longer present to stimulate the jawbone, it will begin to recede. This can not only cause other teeth to become loose due to the lack of support but can also affect your facial contours. Dental implants help maintain a healthy jaw bone.
Improved self-confidence
Reestablishing a healthy smile can significantly boost your self-confidence. In addition to allowing you to speak and eat confidently, dental implants can be paired with high-quality restorations that look exceptionally realistic.

As a durable tooth replacement solution, you can enjoy these benefits for many years or even a lifetime.

Restore Your Smile

Before

Dental implant without restoration

A dental implant is an effective anchor for a number of restoration options.

After

Dental implant with restoration

Once the final restoration is in place, patients can enjoy a natural-looking smile.

Your Health and Lifestyle

Can Affect Candidacy

Low Jawbone Density

Sufficient jawbone density is required to support dental implants.

Smoking

Smoking inhibits your ability to heal and increases the risk of implant failure.

Periodontal Disease

Healthy gums are required to provide a stable foundation for dental implants.

An Investment in Your Smile

Can Provide a Wealth of Benefits

Because of their affordability, the most common option for replacing lost teeth are traditional bridges and dentures. This is especially true when you consider that each dental implant can add more than $2,000 to the cost of treatment.

However, dental implants do provide a significant benefit not offered by traditional restorations: reversing the effects of jawbone atrophy. As bone loss progresses, traditional dentures require frequent relining and adjustments for the wearer. While not significant all at once, the cost of these adjustments adds up over time. Implant-supported dentures help your jaw keep its shape and size, and may require significantly fewer adjustments.

Treatment Cost and Financing

The starting cost for a single implant post at our practice is $1,900. This does not include bone grafting, abutments, or your restoration. While this may seem like a significant investment, dental implants can prevent the need for more extensive future treatments and provide unparalleled results.

While insurance typically does not cover dental implants, we do not want our patients to be discouraged from this highly effective treatment. As such, we offer an in-office discount plan as well as third-party financing. Our Dental Benefits Program is offered to patients without insurance and provides discounts on services. Patients can also apply for CareCredit® which offers a variety of payment plans.

The Treatment Process

The Dental Implants Process

Typically, the dental implants process is completed over several appointments at our Albuquerque, NM, practice. Depending on your needs, bone grafting, tooth extraction, and other preparatory procedures will need to be performed before dental implant surgery. Once these are complete, Dr. Ollason can then place your implants.

During your implants appointment, he will first create an incision in the gums to access the jawbone. The implant post will then be inserted into the bone and the incision will be closed. The dental implants must fully fuse with the jawbone before your restoration can be placed. This process is known as osseointegration and typically takes about three to six months.

As a durable tooth replacement solution, you can enjoy the benefits of dental implants for many years or even a lifetime.

During the healing time, your personalized restoration will be hand-crafted at our partner lab. Once the treatment site has completely healed, you will return to have your denture, crown, or bridge placed. At this time, the abutment and your restoration will be attached to the implant. When you leave our office, you will be able to enjoy full dental function and restored aesthetics.

All-on-4® Dental Implants

All-on-4® dental implants are another implant option at our Albuquerque, NM, dentistry. This technique uses fewer implants to secure both dental arches. Patients will receive a high-quality restoration to provide full function the same-day of treatment.
